AI in Product Photography: Adobe Generative Fill and Generative Expand

Recently, I delved into the world of product photography, specifically exploring the integration of AI within Adobe’s Photoshop. This led me to uncover the transformative capabilities of Adobe's Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools, particularly within the context of capturing the essence of Üm (pronounced like the end of "Mushr-oom"). Üm is a truly innovative beverage, blending natural flavors with functional mushrooms. As I navigated through the intricacies of Adobe's AI, I discovered how these tools enable seamless enhancement and customization, fundamentally revolutionizing the visual presentation of products.

“Üm (pronounced like the end of Mushr-oom) is a brand-new, no-sugar, non-caffeinated, flavored seltzer with four functional mushrooms including Lions Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps, and Chaga. Founders Megan Marquardt and Ben Dicker have developed a great tasting natural energy seltzer that I have found not only delicious but amazingly functional in proving a non-caffeinated energy boost later in the day when coffee would effect sleep and cause jitters.” (Check them out at drinkum.co )

Product photography is an ongoing exploration for me. This project offered a valuable chance to dive into the intricacies of lighting and setting up a versatile, efficient studio. The aim was to capture high-quality, lifelike images reminiscent of the item found on store shelves. Üm's product provided an excellent canvas to experiment with these concepts and refine new skills.

Venturing into the realm of AI tools offered by Adobe marked a significant milestone for me. Utilizing features like Generative Fill and Generative Expand allowed me to seamlessly enhance my imagery, expanding backgrounds effortlessly to accommodate various image sizes as needed. In the example provided below, Image A showcases the raw capture from my camera, while Image B illustrates the border expansion achieved entirely through AI processing of the same photograph. This not only unlocks a realm of infinite customization but also empowers photographers, even within confined studio spaces, to offer clients a broader array of options through post-production manipulation.

I had the opportunity to explore more than just Adobe’s Generative Expand—I also delved into Generative Fill, a remarkable tool for seamlessly integrating additional elements into images. I found it particularly impressive in enhancing images, as seen in the examples below where I utilized it to effortlessly add mangos, chilis, and limes to the composition. The AI-powered Generative Fill truly delivered exceptional results.

Like many, I've grown accustomed to spotting images easily discernible as AI-generated. However, the seamless integration of Adobe's Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools has utterly transformed my perception. In this collection of images, the distinction between AI-generated and traditionally captured elements is virtually imperceptible. The meticulously crafted colors, shadows, and lighting converge to produce images of unparalleled realism. It's a testament to the remarkable advancements in AI technology and its potential to revolutionize the realm of photography.

The intersection of AI and product photography represents a paradigm shift in visual storytelling. Through the lens of Üm's innovative seltzer, I have witnessed the power of AI to transcend traditional boundaries and elevate the art of image creation. As I continue to explore the possibilities of AI-assisted photography, one thing remains clear: the future is brimming with endless creative opportunities, limited only by our imagination. With tools like Adobe's Generative Fill and Generative Expand leading the way, we stand on the precipice of a new era in visual communication, where authenticity and innovation converge to captivate audiences worldwide.
